1 What languages do you speak?
I speak English, Chinese and a little Japanese. I studied all three languages in school from a very early age. Of course, Chinese is my native language so I also learned to speak at home, as a child, like most children.
2 Have you ever learnt any foreign languages in school?
Yes, in school I learned English since I was in primary school, and later on I learned Japanese and some Russian. I enjoy learning languages and learning about the culture of the countries where those languages are spoken.
3 Do you think it"s difficult to learn a new language?
I think it honestly depends on what the language is, and whether you are familiar with the language family or not... I mean, if you are Chinese then it might be easier to learn Japanese than, say, German… or Russian, because they share some characteristics in common, at least in the written form. So, it really depends.
4 Will you learn another language in the future?
To be honest, I hope not. I don"t really like learning languages much. I think that 3 languages is enough and I would like to focus on speaking those as well as possible, and then focus my energy on my master"s degree studies – in international relations. So, it"s not a priority for me to study any new languages. At least not in the foreseeable future.
5 Why do people learn foreign languages?
People learn foreign languages for a few key reasons: mainly for work prospects in the future – you know, to work in international business it"s good to speak another language to facilitate communication. Others learn languages because of personal interest.
